And no, I'm not thinking the Madonna we all know today- I think she came around after the Beatles dispersed.

From an African lady in National Geographic magazine.

Paul McCartney said it was a general tribute to women, inspired by the picture of the African woman suckling her child, captioned with "Mountain Madonna."

It's a pretty blatant faux-Domino type piano piece, and it has more than a passing resemblance to an obscure-ish song called "Bad Penny Blues" by Humphrey Lyttleton, from the 1950s.

Not to my knowledge. It was a song Paul did as more a Fats Domino piano-style 'tribute'.

EDIT *

I'm hesitant to buy the Mountain Madonna story. The website someone listed below is Not a reliable source as it only allows *fans* to toss in their own 2 cents (& this one didn't mention *their* source) I'd be 100% certain had it been a more concrete source. (eg: one of the Beatles or someone Very closely connected to them)

About.com also mentions the M.M story, saying that Richie Havens supposedly heard Paul tell a fan that in the late 60s. *Closer* to credible, but still somewhat indefinite & "2nd-handish".

However, the Fats Domino reference is a definite.

Paul McCartney is one of the randomest songwriters ever.

He once said in an interview, most of his songs are misinterpreted.. When he writes about cars people take it he is talking about a love.

Im not a big beatles fan, but if fthat was written by McCartney it literally could be about ANYTHING ..
