Have you ever looked at the concept of mapping within the criminal justice system? They intend to map not only offenders but the children of offenders. I have a theory that the purpose of inter-agency working, ID cards, DNA testing etc will one day lead to a society that is totally controlled and supervised through a computer controlled bureaucratic government subsidised organisation. They've sold everything else! Schools already use a system of fingerprinting and ID cards so that our children can have their dinner. I have no doubt that the worst thing about this will be the fact that the government will charge us for the privilege of total monitoring whilst employing a company incapable of fulfilling the role. I'd be interested in hearing of any company that has been successful in fulfilling this role. I'm not sure why our government wrote the 1998 Data protection act or why they have ever entered in to conversation regarding the human rights of individuals.

To some extent, similar thoughts have crossed my mind. My wife has given birth to 3 children in the last 2 years, all of which were DNA "tested" (by law) within 48 hours of birth for a handful of VERY obscure diseases they have no cures for. It occurred to me, if they store this info, not only will their DNA be on file for future criminal IDs against them, any crime THEIR children, siblings, parents, grandparents commit could be detected as well!!

haven't you heard about the VERICHIP ????
Please, please use Google or some other seach engine,
and reseach the Verichip program!!!
The Verichip gives me the creeps.
The company that owns Verichip is Applied Digital Solutions
(ADS )
ADS is owned by another company called Digital Angel.
And ADS will be doing business as XMark .
The basic premise is that ADS will insert a microchip under the skin. The chip simply holds a long hexidecimal number.
The number will be "better" then social security numbers
and "better" then drivers licenses. The way it works is that the number will be linked to a large national and eventually global database that stores your name, address, age, etc.
What's more, ADS is now improving the chip so that it contains a Global Positioning System detector in it.
So everything you're talking about has already begun.

Well, they already monitor lots of stuff. I bet say when I call my parents to Europe, computer keeps a track of it. When I buy "Demolition for Dummies" on Amazon they also know. Well, that's information age for you. Bank keeps a track of what stuff I buy. If I ever kill someone they'll have all this data in no time.

Not to disagree with the smart-*** answers you have already received but this is old news.
The Gumint (government) is spending billions compiling assorted (DNA, retinal scan, fingerprint, face recognition) databases on John Doe Citizen.
This is supposedly illegal, but, considering 9/11, they are doing it anyway.
Big Brother is here and now!

It is a recipe for even more abuse of, and contempt for our human rights which are rapidly eroding.

Perhaps one day hackers who get into Government computers and infect programmes that are used to oppress us will be our new heroes.
