I messed up in high school. I dropped out and obtained my GED. But it has been 3 years since high school and for the past 2 years I've been working my butt off at community college. Now I want to transfer to a university. I have a 4.0 GPA and extremely high SAT and ACT scores. I have a ton of extracurriculars and a load of volunteer work. That being said, how much will my awful high school history matter to high ranking universities?

Wow, that was rude. Why would I lie about my GPA to people on the Internet? Yes, I have a 4.0. I am an intelligent girl who made some stupid choices. Attending a CC has absolutely NOTHING to do with ones capabilities.

Your CC grades are what will count, not your HS grades. You will be fine, and should consider applying for scholarships as well. I also didn't go to college right out of HS, went to a CC and then state school, and later an Ivy League for graduate school, so there's no limit to what you can do!

I completely missed the rude answer? I don't see anyone make a statement about attending a CC making you stupid.

Oh, maybe you mean the poster of above me who said if you really have the gpa you claim to have earned. Well, she said that because a lot of people lie on the internet and 4.0 in college is VERY difficult to pull off, I don't care if you're at MIT or a CC.

If you really have the GPA you claim to have earned at the community college, your high school history should be minimal. As long as you have proven yourself since then, showed that you have grown out of that stage, it probably won't matter at all. Depending on the university, they may not even ask for your high school transcript, since you are transferring from a community college.

at any ivy league, you dont have a chance. but at a "b" school i think you might be okay so long as you have outstanding grades. if you are a minority (black, hispanic, asian) you have an extremely slender chance of getting into an ivy league college. but as for state colleges or "b" schools, i think you have a good chance.
