"What are you/what is (s)he?"
Neither of my children are caucasian. People intrusively ask this question in a most insensitive manner. They are inquiring about race, but's it's rude and leaves my children with a sense that race matters and/or that race is of utmost importance to others being the first question some ask about them.
There is an appropriate time and way to ask about someone's race. "What are you?" is not it!
