Position you car so that you can see the rear wheels of the car in front can be seen. This will give you enough room to manouvre your vehicle out into another lane, and also prevent you from going up the rear bumper of the car in front of you, if someone should slam into the rear of you. But the best thing to do in a traffic jam is to be patient, and arrive home safely.

Day dream about driving a bull dozer and ramming all of the cars in my lane (like a snow plow) until I get to my exit.
Make list of things to do when I get out of the jam
Check the weather, traffic, and e mail from my cell then...

if it's a bad traffic jam
sometimes I'll put the car in park, or shut off the engine and listen to the radio

Listen to music, daydream, pretend you're not there, sleep, and stare at the other cars waiting for them to move, or you could beep the horn a lot

Put on the red clown nose that is, for reason I'm not even aware of, in my glove box, and laugh at the reactions of the people around me.

I put my emergency flashers on, hit the horn, and watch all the cars in front of me make way. Works everytime.
