It's best to major in biology and/or chemistry, even though you will read that you can major in anything. You will need the science courses to do well on the MCAT, which you take for medical school entrance (you take in junior year, like you did the SAT in HS). You'd also want to take some psychology and maybe sociology.
So, 4 years UG, 4 years medical school (during which you can't work--it's too intensive). Then you do one intern year and a few years of residency--depends on your specialty. I think regular pediatrics would be tw more years--you are not in school but working usually in a hospital.

Well for your undergrad you major in a science, probably biology, or at some schools there is a "premed" track. Then you go (or try to go to) medical school, then you have to have specialized training for pediatric medicine which basically consists of you following around a pediatrician for on the job experience. Good luck.

As long as you satify the requirements to enter a medical school you do not have to necessarily major in a science. You may want to do a minor in biology.

Well you'd go the pre-med track in college. Honestly, you can major in whatever you want, as long as you fulfill the med school's (the one you wish to attend) prerequisites. I have a friend who's majoring in anthropology and is in the premed program.
