When they find the core sample with the bug, it says that it led to panspermia, or the idea that all life started from elsewhere in the universe. Later, it says that the asteroid hit in 1776. It also says that meteorite is 170 million years old. If it hit Earth in 1716, how did it start all life forms? DECEPTION POINT.

I don't think they meant all lifeforms started from THAT particular bug or meteor, it just provided evidence that life forms can travel from planet to planet

I think they meant that the theory of "panspermia" was not confirmed until now because if one asteroid hit, then another would've definitely been possible, considering that there is life outside of Earth.
