Maddux has 347 Wins and has a Career ERA of 3.11
Clemens has 354 Wins and has a Career ERA of 3.12

Maddux is playing next year so he will likely pass Clemens career wins total. Clemens may not pitch next year. Maddux is not a power pitcher but he is a genius on the pitching mound and i think he is the best pitcher of our generation and with all the suspicion of Clemens Steroid Use his career is in question. Do you agree Maddux is the best of our generation?

To some people strikeouts mean a lot but Maddux used his intelligence on his pitching mechanics and the most important thing is wins and Maddux is a 347 career winner and Clemens career consists of only K's and Maddux career is astonishing since he never was a power pitcher and rarely throws any fastballs above 87 he is a great pitcher that will go unnoticed among people but in the end he will be the best of our generation.

Other than in 1990, when he was 15-15, from 1988 through 2004 (17 seasons), Maddux had a winning record (a .577 winning percentage or better). It's true that Maddux is more of a finesse pitcher. Don't forget also that Maddux is the best fielding pitcher in history as well with 17 Gold Gloves out of the last 18 seasons from 1990 to the present. Maddux for these reasons is definitely the better pitcher.

To finish the comparison, Clemens hit a slump his last four seasons in Boston which culminated in a combined record of 40-39 for only a .494 percentage after he had been 136-63 in 1986-1996. Then he went on a 136-53 from 1997-2004 in his two years in Toronto, his five years in New York, and his first year in Houston. The slump followed by the sharp turn upward indicates that his use of steroids is highly probable.

Clemens has yet to be proven as a steroid user. Until then, he is the best. Maddux can still end up having a higher ERA than Clemens next year. Also, Clemens won 7 Cy Young awards. So until the Rocket gets busted for Steroids, I can give you 7 reasons why he is better. Clemens won 66% of his games, while Maddux won 62%. Clemens has 7 Cy Youngs to Maddux's 4. Greg Maddux has a .249 BAA, Clemens has a .229 BAA.

Its very close Other numbers to look at is whip Clemens 1.17 and Maddux 1.14 And even thou Clemens strikes out 2 more batters per 9 innings Clemens 8.55 k/9 compared to Maddux 6.12 k/9, Maddux relied on better control Maddux 1.81 BB/9 compared to Clemens 2.89 bb/9 and Clemens may have 7 Cy Young's Maddux was competing against teammates Glavine and Smoltz. So even if There was no Steroids you would probably say Maddux was the better pitcher.

With Clemens stats in doubt, and Pedro Martinez not having the longevity or health of Maddux, then yes, Greg Maddux HAS to be considered the premiere pitcher of the past 25 years at least. Randy Johnson moves up a notch with Clemens' status in limbo, but not nearly enough to match Maddux.

I would normally say Clemens, but after all this controversy surrounding him, Maddux is definitely the top dog now, and he's from my hometown of Vegas too, nice.

Randy Johnson is a close 2nd.

I love watching maddux pitch.
I watched a game last summer in which he got through 6 innings on 70 pitches. No heat, just good pitches----strikes!
You might as well swing at the first pitch because you're not going to see anything better.
It makes for a crisply played, enjoyable game, not a lot of dead time, and endless overanalysis by announcers that should --- just---shut up!

You can also factor in that Maddux has never had to face the DH on a daily basis before making this argument.

Clemens never used steroids. There is a former trainer of his that was upset because clemens fired him. Clemens without a doubt is the best this generation or any other futeure generation will ever see again.

I think he is a great pitcher, but clemens will always be the best unless he is found guilty of taking steroids
