...it appears as though someone put a time limit on the question process? Some questions seem to make absolutely no sense, are poorly worded, have every other word misspelled, and have impossible grammar. Are people not aware that they can take time to reread their question, correct spelling errors and make sure the question makes sense? Is this just an example of the direction our society is headed; that more and more of us don't know or care how ignorant we really sound?

I think it's because most of the questions I see here are coming from teenagers and spell check for correct spelling doesn't seem to be a high priority with them, given text messaging where everything has some sort of abbreviation and an inferior education system, if you will, across the country. I believe it's indicative of a society and generation that puts very little emphasis on its academia.

I think we can usually decipher what the person is trying to say. I know what you mean though, sometimes I think a child has written a lot of the questions but also spelling is a memorization process and some people are just not very good at spelling. You are right that the spell check might be a great solution to all of those misspelled words.

Well, considering that they're communicating with complete strangers, I'd wager that they really don't care. If I was, say, IMing a friend and she started using horrendous grammar, I'd mention it and tell her to stop (all my friends are essentially grammar nerds.) Essentially, I'd judge her by her grammar. But I can't really do that for someone I don't know and will, in all likelihood, never meet. Perhaps some people feel that it's just not worth the effort. I think it's always best to make a good impression -- people automatically think I know what I'm talking about just because I bother to press the 'Shift' key at the beginning of a sentence.

If you have a question and just want it answered then why care about anything? It won't make a difference in your life? However I take the time to spell things out, because I don't like to look like a slob, also I have pride in what I do.

As long as people get an answer, thats all they really care about. People type informally on the internet and often use slang because it is what they are used to. They may sound ignorant, but they just found a way to type faster. See, some people would think that they way you are typing is weird because you use no slang and type formally. Its got nothing to do with society, its all about people's personalities and how they feel is necessary to type.

i think more of us don't know.
another thing.
alot of the questions, like ur own, are worded so intelligently.

When someone of less intelligence asks a question theyre insecure to begin with because they need help but also other people sound so much more educated then they do and they get intimidated. Usually resulting in careless typing and poor grammer out of slight depression.

I don't think people care about how ignorant they sound -- for the most part. On some smaller level, I think there are a lot of people using this forum who speak English as their second language. They seem to really struggle with spelling and grammar.

But teens? I predict that they are going to make language evolve to texting shorthand. ttyl

Sounds about right to me!

And when you make a comment about how incomplete their question is, someone reports you and you lose 10 hard-worked points.

I have seen a lot of those and decided just to move on and not try to answer them. It is most aggravating to me when people use text message lingo to write their questions.

no some people are just goons. the other problem is trying to decypher some of the questions from the language they are in. i blame it on IM and text messaging, this 'shorthand'.
