I would say Resident Evil 4 would be your best bet. I think I have at least 28 hours in it and I'm not done yet. The controls are a blast, and you aren't hampered by the "on rails-ness" of Umbrella. There is definitely more of a game in RE4. I was also new to the series prior to getting it for my Wii, but it is a blast and a good value for only 30 bucks.

I have both games and I enjoy them equally. They are both great games in their own respect. Resident evil 4 is good for the wii and is an expansion of the story in another country. Gameplay runs an average of 25 hours +. I am currently playing the Umbrella Chronicles which is an arcade style game like House of the Dead/Time Crisis. It 'chronicles' the story of re0,1, and 3 taking you down memory lane. I'm not sure of the gameplay because I haven't had much time to sit down and play for more than an hour but I'm sure the want to improve your ratings in each chapters will last awhile. Overall both games are highly addicting and fun. The graphics are pretty good considering it is the wii and the sounds and storylines are great.
Since you are new to the series, I highly recommend you play RE4 first because of its great storyline and gameplay. I mean, there is a reason it was remade from the ps2 to the wii...
Have fun!

I'd get Resident Evil 4. I'm biased it, though, seeing as I haven't played Umbrella Chronicles. It only took me around 15 hours to beat, though, so, it's not that long. Really fun game, all the same.

I have RE4, and the playing time is about 20hours. As for Umbrella Chronicles, I have not played yet, but it is just an arcade style shooter. And if you're new to the series, then it is a good buy for you 'cuz it kinda takes you to key places in the first 3 games.

Well the RE4 is just like the ps2, but just a port with Wii controls. One of the only good ports RE umbrella chronicles is more of a arcade type game with you shooting and only seeing a gun. So yeah they are both good and I would say get both if you can, but if not get RE4 first, then umbrella chronicles
