I'm moving to Vegas for 3 months in March, and I just need to know a few things about it. How is public transportation? does it run 24/7? What's it like outside of the tourist traps? Any pieces of advice?

A lot of public transportation runs very late, some 24/7.

Outside the tourist area, it's like any other city with gambling in the grocery store, though. Traffic sucks. Live close to where you work, especially if you are using public transportation.

omg people think that it is hard to live in vegas or something. we are just normal people like any other state, only the strip is closer so your vacation is cheaper.lol, Public transperation is some areas is really really bad but if you live in Henderson or Green Valley then you will be fine with the PT. Not all of the PT is open 24/7 it just depends on where you live. About the outside of the tourist maps it is just a normal place that gets really hot in the summer(get a pool) and it is ok in the winter but after you live there for a while than it is freezing in the winter and you wont be able to go to the snow anymore...lol..

Vegas is not a high crime city. I think the person who said stay off the "back streets" was talking about the extremely poor area just a little ways off the strip. Every city has a poor, high crime area, that's not unique to Vegas.

It's a very normal city once you get away from the strip. Transportation does run 24/7, and it seems like stores are open a bit later then they are in many places (not everything is open 24/7 though, not even in the casinos.) There are always jobs available here and the city is very clean.

Stay off the back streets after dark if you value your life, I pray you dont gamble, you will leave poor-broke-and-scantless, public transportation is like any other city, cabs, busses, the works. No trains though, that's not to good. I guess they dont need them really come to think of it. There is allot of crime in Vegas after dark, and some in the day even, just worst at night. They have gang problems also. and it is mostly shut-down between 3:am and 5:am: I guess to clean up, but even then some joints are open. Vegas is mostly just a "Tourist-Trap", plain and simple. I dont think it's a good place to raise a family that is for sure! okay to visit though, for a week, no-more. Hope this helped! Just my opinion mind you, others might say different, But it was the way I seen it living there a year. Hated it. And I do-not gamble. Anyways, You Take Care and God-Bless to You and Yours. Not all of the PT is open 24/7 it just depends on where you live. I would suggest living in Green Vally, Henderson, the Lakes, Aliante or Summerlin like me.....safer areas. stay away from the east side at night until you get familiar with the area. Once you get away from the strip you would never guess your in Vegas.

I lived there for 2 years... 1961 thru 1963 and it's just like any other town it's size once you get away from the gambling.

You tend to eat out a lot because food is such a bargain. You don't want your young children to go to school there and you have to put up with some of the worst people in the world... I called them "Cockroach People" because you never see them out in the daylight.

PT is awful. I have a car but work and talk to my frineds that use the bus. They hate it. not dependable. And that is not just LV but Henderson as well.

Other than that. This is paradise. I live here and work here and it is the most wonderful place to live.

You can enjoy this place if you do not need to be dependent ont he bus. Maybe you hook up with a friend and get a car ride and share the expenses.

Good luck to you

24 hours a day on the bus, but they do not adhered to the Timetable.

Public transportation sucks.

The city is too big for the valley, smog is a constant problem and crime is growing. They are short on water and trying to steal it from rural counties hundreds of miles away.

On the flip side, housing prices are way down and if you got good credit, you can really do well on a house.
