I was at work and couldn't turn down the volume on my computer and can't disable flash for business reasons. I complained to Yahoo! and The Gap, but I think the people who are authorized to decide to take the ad down are off for the holiday.

Yahoo! said this about the ad:
"We usually don't allow ads with audio on Yahoo! Answers and have been removing these from the site. Thank you for your feedback.

Jane"

I actually got a response from The Gap. Here was my e-mail:

Good Afternoon,
The Gap advertisement with Will Arnett & Amy Poehler is extremely irritating, unexciting, and based on all the chatter on Yahoo!, detrimental to the Gap. Not only detrimental to the Gap, but I now cannot stand Will Arnett & Amy Poehler.
The person who put together this little 'snipet' either must not have spent a lot of time working on it or they are sadistic, because othewise, they would have realized how torturous it is and therefore would not have released such an assault on the thousands of people who visit Yahoo! Each day. I've never heard such anger and frustration from the Yahoo! Community -- even little girls are cussing up a storm about it!
Could we please at least get a pause button that works instead of the fake one that links people to a website that nobody cares about? There have been a lot of prayers asking for such a miracle this Christmas.

Here was their response:

Dear Mr. Spears,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our current GapTidings Yahoo!
advertising campaign. We always want to know how our advertising is being received, and your comments are appreciated.

We have several different campaigns a year, and each one is designed to target various segments of our consumer base. We regularly evaluate our ads for effectiveness and reach because we want to make sure our advertising is appropriate for our customers and our brands. Feedback like yours is an important part of this process, and we have forwarded your concerns to the marketing managers who are responsible for these decisions. We are sure they will be interested to hear your thoughts on this matter as well.

Again, thanks for bringing your concerns to our attention. We hope you will continue to let us know how we are doing.

Sincerely,

Jill

Yes very much so, as it cuts into me listening to the radio at the same time as being here. I've dropped an e-mail to Gap customer services, suggesting they should come and see how well it's going down here, ... and that the person who passed it as amusing having listened to it once, should be forced to listen to it a few hundred times. Oh no: I've just found this via Google news, for 20th Dec: “Gaptidings is a clever way for Gap to empower consumers to reach out to loved ones around the holidays with personalized video messages,” says Conn Fishburn, Yahoo’s director of social media strategy. “It enables them to develop a deeper connection with their customers in a fun, engaging way.” So now we have at least one name for the top of the next solstice bonfire. Twice over. Once for the video ad, and once for the revolting "business-speak"
