First of all, your mom shouldn't have to go outside of her own house to smoke when you visit, even if you feel her smoking bothers you while pregnant. If it bothers you, you could always go outside, or go in another room, or you can just go home. Asking her to go outside of her house is selfish on your part. Like you are the only one in the world that matters. Now if she were visiting you, you could tell her to go outside. But since this is her house, it is her rules, you must abide by them. You don't have to like them.

You are so right to be concerned! Second hand smoke is terrible for you and especially terrible for the baby! PLEASE get your mom to go outside with you when she smokes - and even at that, stand at a distance so that you will not breath in her smoke. There are so many ways to let your mom know you love her - talking to her about being a mom for one! Just remember to respect the fact that you have your baby's life and health in your hands. You want to start being the best mom you can right now by protecting your child.
Congratulations, and happy holidays!

Most likely not. But I think just to be safe, you should ask your mother not to smoke around you just in case. Because who knows? There is a possibility the baby may be harmed, but why take the chance?

Well if she cares about you and the baby she will smoke outside and not as often so she could visit with you. It's only going to be for a couple of days...

Any second hand smoke is harmful. Your mom should go without for a few days. You both should put your baby first.

inhaling smoke travels through your blood stream and can come into contact with the baby via the placenta. those who smoke are at higher risk of having a miscarriage, still birth, premature birth and a baby with a low birth weight. those risks are higher if you are the one smoking yourself constantly. trying to steer clear as you've done so far is a good choice. if you want to talk to her, then wait until she is finished and pull her aside for a quick chat. then when she starts smoking again, wait again until she is finished then talk to her again.

Second hand smoke is just as dangerous as if you were smoking. She cannot smoke around you. This would be a good time for her to try to quit for the sake of her grandchild.

yeah its not good for either of you. a smoke filled room is like 400ppm CO. I'm not sure exactly how much but if i recall right. and for a fetus that is not good they have a different type of hemoglobin (HgF) which has a greater affinity for oxygen than adult hemoglobin (HgA) i would try to avoid the smoke. good luck I'm sure everything will be fine tho.
