Lies are mere words.

They neither do good nor harm.

People do the good or harm with what they do or say.

And other people make that judgment.

It all depends on the person doing the judging as to what is good and what is harm.

The answer is could be.

Yes some lies obviously do more good than harm.

In some situations it is not good to tell the truth, as it might not help anyone, not have any benefit, and make everybody feel bad/cause harm.

Some people are so brainwashed and conditioned that they are convinced they always have to tell the truth, and cannot see that sometimes it is better not to speak. Then they feel they 'did the right thing'.

I think it is better to weigh each case and do what you think has the best outcome for all involved parties (showing some Emotional Intelligence).

I don't say lying is good. I say sometimes it is better not to speak, or to say it a little different in order to avoid grief harm and misery.

A lie will always rob you of some reality and reality is the only thing that is really worthwhile and that can really change anything.

a lot of people find comfort in the sweet by and by and a lot of healing takes place but how many of them neglect the only life they will ever have by hoping that one day when they die everythikg will be perfect.

Their is always some kind of trade off for instand comfort.

That said, I have already started drinking and it is only monday morning..

But the one I love will be with Joseph tonight and if she believes he is the only only one who will love her now she might have a wonderful night.

I never lied. I just ever told her the way I felt.

So actually, I dont' know. Stop thinking so much and just live. Our actions are limited to our options so don't resent your life.

(Now here is the answer I gave when I was still sober and before the session expired and I had to start again. Then I realised that Firefox actually saves a good deal of your past pages completely. godda love firefox)

- No. There is always some harm in choosing temporary comfort over an absolute understanding of the truth.

Lies steal from us and keep us locked in a pattern of denial as they take us further from the truth and only the truth can change reality and only reality can bring you true joy.

So my girlfriend asks me, "So you think they jeans make my butt look big?" What am I to say? "Well yes honey they do, but at least it distracts from you face." Everyone prefers a pleasing lie to an unpleasant truth. They call them white lies; harmless lies designed to avoid hurting peoples feelings. But here's the trick. When do you respect the person enough to lay it on the line for their own benefit? When crunch time comes and a lie will do more harm than good what will you do? Good luck when that time arrives because it is a major *****.

Of course they do. We need to use our judgment. I "lied" to my husband when he was apprehensive about whether he'd be able to take his November vacation. The doctor had told me he was going to die, but my husband stopped "worrying" it. I lied when I said I enjoyed driving the country roads every night to take him to radiation, when I was bone tired. I lied when he got paranoid that the new razor I'd gotten him was "meant" to make him bleed, (his skin was like parchment). I agreed that something was wrong with it, & I'd take it back, & he calmed down. A few examples. This NEVER led to any "harm."
Anyone who thinks a lie is a lie is a lie & always bad, isn't thinking at all.

Ya, but for some a lie is a lie, no matter how big or harmful. Just like a sin is a sin even if you molest a child or steal a piece of gum, its still a sin.

But the saying you have to break the law to expose the bigger sin. ( or something very similar ) comes to mind.

many do. the bad in them is that it isn't the truth, and by lieing for whatever reason, the "good" is truly not at all, because it isn't what is true.

you can cover a bed with an infinite number of blankets, but when things get messy, all will be uncovered (in most cases).

I could personally never stand the guilt of blanketing away the truth, in order to unfold a lie...but if the lie has better intentions and effects of the truth, would that just make me selfish?

sorry for the...."half" answer, but it's getting late....and i have some late christmas shopping to do (for friends i don't see often, and for mysle,f with some money i got. =))

Most lies are bad, but certain circumstances require a little white lie to keep the peace

Obviously it depends on the lie. There are lies that can help us rule the world, even the lies we tell our lies. Other lies destroy us and our abilities and confidents.
