David Beckham is an excellent player. He doesn't have the pace but he has great passing skills and is a freekick specialist, he makes up for his lack of speed with these skills.
As a player gets older, he tends to slow down and gets injured a lot. That's what happening with Beckham. I think he needs more playing time to more or less up his quality level. But on a practical side, he should not be playing all the games, especially if the matches are not important.
The objective in his career right now is to carry on playing for as long as he can.

Beckham is a great player, but his strong points are such that I don't think he will help MLS win over the average American sports fan to the game. Non-soccer fans go to the stadiums to see him more for his celebrity status than for his play.
Beckham is a tremendous playmaker and free kick specialist, but non-soccer sports fans want to see a high-scoring individual who will beat 3 or 4 opponents before making a spectacular strike. Pele was that kind of player back in the NASL, but its just not Beckham's forte.

I Have never really seen a old player join any soccer as it is more for younger people. But to answer your question i would say the oldest is about 30. If u look at Zidane he is still playing and is 36 years old!!! but if you are just becoming pro i think 30 so u have some time to play before retiring. For the second question i think that soccer comes down to skill and if you have all atributes then obviously you would become pro. However it also helps to play in training camps such as ODP(Olympic development training) so you will be seen more by various coachs.

Personally the man is a great player, I'm not a big soccer fan, but i do know he has some serious bending skills, although i don't really understand why come to the US? when the sport he is so good at barely gets any attention. But other than that he should play more.

I personally feel VERY strong about this issue.... Beckham is a great player. Should he be makin all the money he does for riding the bench 90% of the season??? NO!!! Should his teammates be losing fame because he came to the team??? NO!!! Has he increased popularity of soccer in the US??? YES!!!

He's a good player and as he is at the latter end of his career it's a good move going to America. You may see more players go to the USA when their days are numbered in Europe.
