I just read this that S.I. in an article said that ST. Paul, MN the home of the Wild at Xcel Energy Center is declared the new "Hockeytown" since poor attendence has taken a dip at the Joe. even though they've been doing great. That's a sad, sad day in Detroit when we are no longer considered "hockeytown" man I'm bumbed out now but, they won against them 4-1! how do you feel about this news of no more "hockeytown" label in our Motor City!
Anyway, Merry Christmas/Happy New Year... may you have safe travels... I'm going to go and sulk... boo hoo.... whaaah...

I am a Detroiter, and I could care a less. We still make the playoffs every year. Yes, with some ups and downs, we all know that. They can call Minnesota, whatever they want to. I will take 3 cups in 10 years, 17 consecutive playoff appearances, continious 100 points seasons, and the fact that our team, never packed up and left town. As far as Toronto goes, try making the playoffs, before you chime in, about what a great hockey town you are. You may ve a great hockey town, but you have a crappy hockey team. As far as SI goes, stick to what you know, college sports, gold, NFL, NBA and MLB, and leave the hockey to the people who know about the game, the fans.

Ignore that article. SI sucks. No one can take away the Hockeytown moniker from Detroit. The reason why for the poor attendance at the Joe is because Red Wing tickets are too expensive and also because of the economic situation in Detroit. The automotive industry is not doing so good right now and because of that Ford, GM and Chrysler are having to get rid of many employees. Minnesota is already known as the State of Hockey anyway. Xcel Energy Center even has a banner saying that hanging on the rafters of the arena.

The reason that the Wings are not filling the stadium is the other sports in Michigan are now doing well.
Detroit IS always going to be hockeytown. Because some jackass at SI decides he's going to re-name hockey town doesn't mean anything.

Detroit is still Hockeytown......I think the economy in Michigan has a lot to do with why the Wings haven't been selling out as much. People just can't afford to take their family to a game, it's too expensive. We still love our Red Wings.

I hate the Red Wings. They suck. I'm sick of hearing about hockeytown too. It's been discussed waaaaay too much.

baseballboy; you're an idiot. When was the last time the Wings won the Stanley Cup?? 2002! Big whoop! 1 year difference! At least the Avs didn't get eliminated in the FIRST round by the Oilers and Ducks in the last several seasons.

Until they no longer put 'Hockeytown' on the ice, Detroit will still be hockeytown

Yup I agree with Mike (Avs fan) I also have a strong dislike for the Red Wings.
There's a reason for the search button its so the people who are on here regularly don't see the same Q a million times! So don't call us rude when you could have been considerate and we might return the favor.

Keep in mind that the two of you are fighting to be "Hockeytown USA". The true "Hockeytown" is in Toronto, Ontario.
