It's a girls name.
My name is Gabriele, but everyone calls me Gabriella or Gaby.

This is the same problem all French names have. In French the femenine form of a name is created adding an "e" at the end of a male name, but it is only in written, since the "e" is mute, so it's hard to differenciate the male from the female name, mainly if you are not a native French speaker.
Daniel-Danielle - Noel - Noelle etc
It's better going with a name from other sources.

I prefer Gaby than Gabrielle or Gabriella

Lovely name. I prefer the full Gabrielle to Gaby though. Gabriella is also beautiful. I love the nickname Briella.

I think its a beautiful name, Like you said people can call you Gaby OR Gabriella :] ALSO Eva Longoria plays a Gaby in Desprate Housewives haha I love that show.

I like the name. My graondSON is Gabriel. For a boy I don't like the nickname Gabby but for a girl I like it a LOT. I like Gabriele better than I like Gabriella but I like both names.
