I think the problem was written in a confusing way...

4x 6x
------- -1 =------ -4
2 2

Using brackets , as you should , will guess at :-
(4x / 2) - 1 = (6x/2) - 4
2x - 1 = 3x - 4
3 = x
x = 3

Due to lack of brackets, question may be read (misread) in many ways.
Suggest that you make your New Year resolution ,"Must use brackets!"

Happy New Year anyway!

First we get all the 'x's on the proper side of the equation, and the constants on the other.

You can rewrite it like this:

4x/2 - 6x/2 = -3

Then, we multiply the whole thing by 2 in order to make it easier for us to do the equation.. and get:

4x - 6x = -6

Then, subtract like terms and get:

-2x = -6

divide by -2...

x = 3

Voila! There you go. X is three.

Hey there!

Here's the answer.

4x/(2-1)=6x/(2-4) --> Write the problem.
4x/(1)=6x/(-2) --> Simplify the denominators of each fraction.
4x=-3x --> Reduce both sides of the equation.
7x=0 --> Add 3x to both sides of the equation.
x=0 Divide 7 on both sides of the equation.

So the answer is x=0.

Or, if you meant:

4x/2-1=6x/2-4 --> Write the problem.
2x-1=3x-4 --> Reduce the fractions on both sides of the equation.
-x-1=-4 --> Subtract 3x on both sides of the equation.
-x=-3 --> Add 1 to both sides of the equation.
x=3 Divide -1 on both sides of the equation.

So the answer is x=3.

Hope it helps!

multiply both sides by 2.

4x-2=6x-8

add 8 to both sides and subtract 4x from both sides

6=2x

divide both sides by 2

3=x

4x = 6x/-2
4x/6x = -2
4/6(x) = -2
x = -2 * - 6/4
x = 3

cross multiply
8x - 16x=12x - 6x
-8x=6x
so either x equals 0 or this equation is wrong
