4x over 2 minus1 =6x over 2 minus 4

I think the problem was written in a confusing way...

(4x / 2) - 1 = (6x/2) - 4
2x - 1 = 3x - 4
3 = x
x = 3

Due to lack of brackets, question may be read (misread) in many ways.
