I'm planning to buy a PSP but I have a few questions. Is it mandatory to buy a memory card otherwise nothing will save or does the PSP have some memory like the Nintendo Wii? Also, is it possible to save game files and what not by using a usb device instead of those flash thingies? Thanks.

You will need a Memory Stick PRO Duo or Duo. If you PC has a Memory Stick slot, you don't need a USB cable. You can use a Memory Stick Reader or just the Memory Stick itself, go ahead and plug it in, you should be fine. No, PSP doesn't have a memory built-in.
The smallest one is 32MB and the biggest one is 8GB Memory Stick PRO Duo/Duo.

The PSP comes with it's own 32mb memory card when you buy it. This is more than enough for pictures, themes and game saves.
However if you want to get the full experience out of your PSP then yes you will need a bigger card. This will allow you to store music and videos which you can listen to or watch whenever you want. It's also useful for things you may download like game demos and it's also useful for games like TOCA and GTA which allow custom soundtracks to be used.
It does not have builtin memory nor does it have a USB device to use instead.

im not shoure what question youre asking? but im thinking youre question is " does the psp have memory already stored in it"
the awnser: no it does not you have to buy a memory card to save anything. if you turn it off with out saveing everything is gone. so if you turn it on again it is like turning on a brand new one, you have to put in the time and date and all that stuff

Not sure about elsewhere, but here in the UK there's a memory card in the box (either 32MB (more than enough for most games) or 1GB, depending on the model.)
Ask when you buy, but without one, you can't save anything.

you cant save any game files without the memory stick duo and it doesnt come with it. it cost about 20-30 dollars.
