Because Americans are no longer getting killed - that's not good news for the media which are all glory hunters sensationalizing news (according to their selfish agendas).
Nobody wants to accept that President Bush was right in staying the course in Iraq. That his policies for the surge was spot-on to affect the current 'calm' situation. Even their staunchest ally, Britain left Iraq in haste because the British public is cowardly, near-sighted and irresponsible calling their government to bring the troops home. They did. They did not care enough to get the job done in Basra. But this has been a British characteristic throughout their history. They create problems and get out, often without offering any lasting solution to the problem they create. The British are largely a selfish, arrogant irresponsible people.
Many Americans are like the British too (Obama included) but thank God there are enough Americans (not Democrats) who believe in the President to get things done right.

This is really pathetic! Less than 1000 dead civilians a month is now a huge success for "freedom" made in USA. Don´t you realize that this whole military adventure based on lies is a crime against humanity? That it will only strengthen al-Qaida? And that as soon as the US-troops will pull out of Iraq mayhem will break lose? Defeating al-Qaida my foot ! An increasingly declining power, America should start rebuilding its' own Mickey Mouse-economy and obsolete infrastructure. But probably it is already too late for that.

It is not good news according to the Bush haters.
The media was told by the democrats to only give
the bad news. So people will think President Bush is
a liar and hate him and the dems will get elected in `08.
There is some good news coming out of the war, but not many people listen to it on the radio or tv stations that carry it.

Because the media doesn't like showing the good stuff usually... only the bad.. it'd be nice to see the positive things for a change.

that would take someone admitting they were wrong. As far is it not making front page news, good things rarely do.

Reasoning tell me the surge have not produced substantial results yet---we are heading into an election year. what else would you expect to hear from this administration--we must be able to sift through all the hype, some of us deal with reality and not easily persuaded, Peace..

Perhaps they consider that redefining terms and changing tactics, for example, increased bombing raids instead of ground infantry, makes escalation appear to be reduction.
