I want to burn a bunch of music on to it to move it to another computer, and I already have a bunch of DVD-Rs, don't feel like going out and buying a bunch of CDs.

When in the CD burning drive, every program or anything I've used just says there is no disk in it, which leads me to believe that there is some kind of system software I need to download, or that it's a hardware problem.

(if you respond, use small words, I'm not even slightly computer savvy.)

I hope your computer says that it can burn DVDs. If it can, I recommend you to use CDBurnerXP - http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ It's completely safe and free and very reliable

Your computer may be at an age where it was produced prior to the newer cd's that are now on the market and will not recognize the new ones. Try using an older style of CD. That is probably the answer.

You may want to think about updating your firmware on your burner. You should look up the manufacturer of your burner and see if they have an updated driver for your particular burner. Oh and a simple thing and obvious one is to make sure that the burning software that you are using is set to dvd instead of cd. I hope this helps.

To burn DVD's you need two things:

1) A drive capable of writing DVD's
2) DVD writing software.

DVD writing software usually comes with the CVD writer, but you still have to install it.

Check your DVD drive, make sure it can write.
