He wasn't. He damned near got the entire world blown up during the Cuban Missile Crisis. During WWII he was considered a "hero' for getting his PT boat cut in half by a Japanese destroyer. He was a good orator. I'll give him that. The problem is that the words were Ted Sorensen's not JFK's. His assassination went a long way to cementing his image as a better president than he was.

Charisma.

Oh, and being assassinated.

PS: Kennedy did do some work, grudgingly and against the wishes of the Democratic party on Civil Rights. JFK was spurred to action by his brother Bobby more than anyone else. Bobby Kennedy and the traditionally pro-civil-rights Republicans used JFK's charisma and assassination to pass a bill that JFK had lobbied for.

Lyndon Johnson could not refuse to sign the bill "JFK had wanted" although he and the rest of the Democratic leadership wanted to. Lyndon Johnson insisted it would divide and destroy the nation and when he signed it he said so, although people have propagandized this to mean the south was anti-civil-rights.

If you review the places that civil rights riots took place the vast majority of them happened in the North. Propagandists will say this is because of fear. It is because blacks in the "North" had NO opportunities.

In Detroit there is still minimal public transportation going out to the primarily Democratic suburbs in the tri-county area. You figure out why.

This propaganda about Democrats caring about civil rights is just that. Primarily Democrats currently and always have opposed civil rights.

In the 1960s, President John F. Kennedy challenged an optimistic nation to build on its great history. Kennedy proclaimed a New Frontier and dared Americans to put a man on the moon, created the Peace Corps, and negotiated a treaty banning atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons. Lyndon Johnson followed Kennedy's lead and worked to pass the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act. Kennedy and Johnson worked together to end the practice of segregation in many southern states. Following Kennedy's assassination, Johnson declared a War on Poverty and formed a series of Great Society programs, including the creation of Medicare — ensuring that older Americans would receive quality health care.

I agree it was his potential. I lived through his term. He did nothing. He promised a lot but never did anything except give his brother a job. He chickened out in Cuba and let the patriots be captured and killed in the Bay of Pigs. He made a deal with Kruschev to look good. He did nothing. He did not bomb Cambodia Laos or N. Vietnam and one Master Historian said, that was Johnson and Nixon.

He was assasinated. Everybody loves a President that was assasinated. Well, except for Garfield. And... McKinley. Well, half of the assasinated Presidents are loved, anyway.
