I saw an answer to another question that describes how I feel very well; I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I'll be 50 next summer, and haven't decided whether to go back or what I'd major in. I do take online course now, but not towards a degree. I volunteer full time right now; and that in itself is an education!

I've considered dozens of majors over the last 5 years; and the thing that delights me most is that so many of the courses are now offered online. So, maybe 2008 will be the year I buckle down and choose a major!

They both have their perks -- Online colleges provide the convenience of earning a degree from home -- and usually run a little less per credit hour. There are many four year brick and mortar colleges and universities that now offer online Bachelor degrees. Most don't differentiate between a degree earned online or on-campus and many consider online students are regular students -- so you be allowed access to things like the campus library. On-campus education is fun and great in a different way -- at no other time in your life (as a new incoming Freshman student) will you have the opportunity to sample so many different options: from housing options to class choices, to extracurriculars and student groups. Online education is good for someone who is balancing work and/or family yet wants a college education. You need to be independent, self motivated, and organized. Online education is a little bit fast paced and there is no one looking over your shoulder or reminding you about upcoming due dates. As long as you go with a brick and mortar four year college or university with an online program, you will still receive a quality education and a worthwhile diploma!

Last year I took a college course online. After I got used to the format via the computer, I really enjoyed it. I've already got numerous degrees so I'm not really majoring in anything else but I would like to get my Maine Studies Certification and will probably take more online courses to complete this. And, yes, I still work outside the home....just like all the other times I went to college, lol...

I am still working 2 jobs and would love to have the time to do more schooling online. Not sure what it would be about yet but I have considered it.

A person can learn a lot online [and I do] but it's difficult to imagine what possible good another degree would offer me at this stage in my life.

However, the possibilities for learning online are almost infinite. It's an unexpected blessing of the 21st Century.

I've looked into it...wanted to get more certification in life skills coaching and even thought about HR certification...but can't afford it right now. My daughter got her advanced degree online and it worked out great for her as she could continue to work FT yet study at home...and yes, I work FT.
