I have not found any info on the top speeds of the camaros and mustangs of the 80's but as far as 1/4 mile goes, the mustangs of the 80's were faster then the camaros of the 80's. In the 90's though, the camaros took the lead. I will paste a great site below you can go to, it lists almost every mustang and camaro 1/4 mile time from the 1980's until today. To answer your question though, the 5.0 v8 mustangs were faster in the 1/4 mile in the 80's then the v8 IROC camaros.

Depends on the individual car.. and how it is setup...
A showroom Camaro with the 350 V8, should have a higher top end with standard factory gears,with the optional 3.55 gears it would be better on the low-end....

you did not really give enough info but if both cars are simular and about the same in horsepower then it could come down to driver abilityas to which driver is able to get more out of their vehicle I have seen slower cars beat faster ones due to driver ability
