Tonight, the bright object next to the moon, is Mars. Venus will show to east near morning.
But, why spoil it; just tell the kids it's Rodoph's nose and Santa is certainly on his way.

I have been told the bright spot beside the moon is the space station. I have been watching it for about 3 hours. It has moved from the 6 o'clock position to the 1 o'clock position. With binoculars, it looks like an object that is foreign to space. Is it the space station? If so, will it be visible other nights?

Isn't it an awesome sight?

If it's reddish, it's Mars. If it isn't, it's Jupiter. Venus is visible only around sunset and dawn because it's an "interior planet." (Interior to our orbit - so it isn't "out there".)
[edit] I went out and looked. It IS Mars.
