Looking up in the sky tonight (i'm in Ohio) I can see a very bright dot of light to the direct right of the moon. It's very small, like a planet would look. But i've never seen anything like it before, and I didn't think any planets were that close to the moon. What is it? My family has been outside just staring at it, trying to figure it out. Is it a really bright star or what?

Maybe Mars? I was reading on Yahoo main page that Mars is supposed to be unusually bright tomorrow so why not tonight, too?

It's Mars.

Tosha, the reason you can't see it is because it is actually BEHIND the Moon as seen from Alaska! Be patient and it will emerge soon.

That's akward, I just saw it too. My guess is that it's a distant star, but I could be wrong. It had a yellow hint to it. Hmm.... probably a star, but you never know.
