It should be a girl name. I knew one guy named Shannon and it's just weird! I've known a few girls named Shannon and they were all very different.

A name doesn't have a personality. A personality has a name. I know several Shannon's (all females) and all of them are very different in their natures. All of them have good and not so good aspects. Just like all of us do. You can't pin down what a person's personality will be based upon their name. You can have a preconceived notion about what connotations YOU have about the name, but unless you actually know the person, your notion is false.

I knew a boy named Shannon, but always thought it was really girly. I wouldn't name my son Shannon, but it's okay for a girl.

I prefer Shannon on a girl - good strong Irish name. I see a freckle-faced, red-haired, green-eyed rascal.

Best Wishes

My best friends name is Shannon. She is honest, loving and very crafty. Family and close friends always come first and she would die for any of us no questions asked. She is the friend people search forever for and most people never get, I am honored to know my Shannon, and think that is a great and noble name for any child.

I have known male and female Shannons - the male hated his name. It is a girls name unless you live in Ireland, then MAYBE a man could get away with it. Even then I would say no. :)
