The Wii Sd card is used for a number of different things. (You have to get the info onto the SD card in order for these to work).
1) You can use it to show off pictures. There is a picture channel you go to and it lets you view pictures and music. You can also edit the way the slideshow show off your pictures. You can play around with the picture like you can do in paint (just basic fun pain tools you get on the computer)
2) put can put music only on the SD card. Then you can view them with your pictures in the picture/photo channel (If you upgraded your photo channel or got a Wii with it already updated you can only play music in the Picture/photo in AAC format not MP3)
3) You can save your game data on it. So lets say you deleted your info you can still have it on your sd card. The only thing is that you have to resave it back to your Wii since it can not read game data from the SD card yet.
Need any more help just ask me

You put it in the front part of the Wii where it opens up. You can put photos and game memories. (i got mine out of my mums camera). So they are pretty useful.
