The truly artistic soul sees artistry in many ways, and in many sources. Intolerance of mediocrity only applies to his own efforts. In that instance the artist copes by fighting against himself. The internal struggle incarnate.

I figure it depends on the artist. Blue(the cat) says it is really a matter of looking at the big picture. Before you decide that the mediocrity is the norm. Try jumping into your artistic mode and improving what you see. It is the artist of the world that make the world look grand for all others. As Blue (the cat) says it is the positive view that determines what mediocrity is.Lighten up and accept the beauty of the world in the eye of an artist. A trash can is not just a trash can....I think fantasy and positive view points will help you see past the mediocrity. Look how the word Blue became musical.. A musician determined what that word would mean and out came the Blues a value in the musical world.. So be it.. Good luck with your question....

The first thing that comes to mind is delusion. The realization of oneselfs mediocrity can be a scary sight, so the first thing we do is reject the idea that we are in fact mediocre. Once our greatness begins to fall short of our expectations, we create excuses. "Perhaps if I had started at a younger age", "if only i had more money", "Oh well some people are born with gifts and others not" etc..... In the end the reasonable mind must confirm to him/herself that it is simply not capable to achieve its desires.
I believe it is always important to do our best in everything we do whether we are going to create a sculpture or sweep the floor, it is essential to become the best we can be. But there is a point when we reach our potential and just as it is important to do our best, to practice incessantly, and to devote ouselfs entirely to our art, it is also important to recognize our limits.

First of all, it is there, always has been and is not going anywhere so this fact first has to be accepted.
What is mediocrity? The dictionary defines it as:
-average, middling, middle-of-the-road, uninspired, undistinguished, indifferent, unexceptional, unexciting, u-nremarkable, run-of-the-mill, pedestrian, prosaic, lackluster, forgettable, amateur, amateurish; informal OK, so-so, ‘comme ci, comme ça’, plain-vanilla, fair-to-middling, no great shakes, not up to much, bush-league. ANTONYMS excellent.
So, excellence requires mediocrity to define it and to be recognized, which is what the artist wants.
Knowledge, aceptence and meditation of this fact may help. If you truly persue excellence and achieve it you will be a light in the forest which will be ultimately seen by your people.

It is like a sports team that loves to play, although they continually lose.

Writers and artists, who enjoy the creative journey, can enjoy "mediocrity" ... as long as they have a day job!

How can a perfectionist deal with reality? They get real or crazy. How does a human cope with childhood. One possibility at a time. Is it purpose or ruthlessness.
