Hey Zach-- you are like a carnival worker. You take these Y!Answers so serious, as IF it is your job! What about YOUR Question a few months ago! QUOTE: "Hyundai burning oil while idling?" So, you feel that that is a proper way to ask a question? Please don't act like such a "know-it-all" english professor. YOU have a lot to learn first!

use notepad to add the line:
127.0.0.1 richmedia.yimg.com
to your:
c:\ windows\ system32\ drivers\ etc\ hosts
file. it will cause your computer to fail to load any files hosted on that server, which on the face of it looks to be one of their ad-serving servers - the gap commercial is held on that particular server but i believe the 'image only'/silent ones are not.
EDIT:
@xenia s:
it *should* work for all browsers - the hosts file is the first port of call on a windows machine to lookup the associated ip address of any domain names. normally there is nothing in that file but by creating our own entry for a site that loops back to your own computer (127.0.0.1) it means the content will fail to load because we/you are neither running a web server on our machines nor is the content there either.
i use firefox myself, and no longer get the gap commercial while having that entry in my hosts file - if you have done the same and it still appears it's not impossible that yahoo has the same advert on multiple servers, especially so since it seems to be an advertisment they're touting heavily at the moment - in that case you'd need to add an entry for each server that's feeding the advert but that's the nature of the beast.
you can read a little more about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file#Other_uses_for_the_hosts_file
another solution which is effective and has been mentioned by another user is to use the following add-ons for firefox:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
noscript is great for eliminating popups and other nasties, and has a handy icon for allowing the small amount of sites that you want javascript to be ran on. adblock lets you effectively block all kinds of unwanted content - i'm not sure about flash adverts but i see no reason why it wouldn't.
or to come at the problem from a different angle, this firefox addon stops flash content from playing automatically which includes advertising, meaning you're only running flash content that you're actually interested in :

Tools, internet options, programs, and manage add-ons options; then disable Shockwave Flash Object. Works like a champ for IE 7.

heh i know, it's like sooo annoying. i usually have the vol. muted, but if i'm listening to music with that gap ad, it drives me nuts!!! The only solution i know of is either just muting your sound, or clicking pause. the ad has to run for a few seconds so it'll pause instead of redirect you to their site.

You are 1. Not precise in your question 2. fail to give any software information, and 3. Adding numerous punctuation marks at the end of your sentences will get you overlooked by many people, not just on Yahoo Answers, but on the Internet in general (forums, IRC, Etc).
Start over. Ask your question, give a detailed description of what is happening and when, and give your operating system type.

I really don't know what ad you are complaining about. That is because I use Firefox browser with NoScript and Adblock addons and see no ads. EVER!
