Generally, if a family is not close, they dont' spend much time together during the year. But then everyone feels obligated to get together at TG and Cmas. So here are all these people who don't really like each other much to begin with, and they start comparing accomplishments, children, and possessions with each other. All these people also have VERY long memories about who hurt them and so on. Plus, more families than not have just gone into debt to finance gifts for people they dont' care about, just to try and impress them. It's a recipe for disaster. In many families, alcohol has a lot to do w/ it, too.

i guess its when the families are supposed to be united that they clash the most. for example my mother and her son-in law try to stay as far away from each other as they can because of the conflicts between them, but on the holidays they have to endure hours under the same roof, thus causing tension and later arguments.

They fight more because they are thrown in together, spend alot more time together, and there is more stress than the rest of the year.

the stress of the holidays, all the buying wrapping and etc. it causes short tempers, impatience, and frustration. Unfortunately, people release it at the wrong times and on the wrong people.
