I'm interested in going to Law School but my UGPA is 2.9 and my lsat was 162, not good enough for a tier 1 school. Everything I'm reading is negative unless you attend Harvard/Yale?Stanford. With tuition being what is it, is it even worth investing over $100k + 3yrs if I won't be able to interview or have access to getting a job at a BIGLAW firm, which pays $125k salaries...?

I've been told that the variance in legal education is much smaller than it is for other disciplines. It is worth getting a JD from a second tier school (while in my opinion it isn't worth getting an MBA from a second tier school).

The thing you should look for when applying is the percent of students who pass the bar on the first try.

I was in your boat. What do you want to do with your JD? Do you plan to practice law? If so, are you hoping to practice locally, near the location where you graduated from law school? If so, then it may still be worth attending a lower tiered law school, keeping in mind that your job prospects will be limited geographically and by quality. If you're like me and wanted to teach law and had little interest in becoming an attorney, then I'd not recommend attending a lower-tiered law school. Like biz schools, law schools are profit-oriented. They're a dime a dozen. Just because you can get a JD does not mean it has substantial value. Unless you're deadset about practicing law locally, then I'd seriously reconsider going to a low tiered law school.

In my opinion, it's not worth it unless you're committed to non-profit work or the like where big money isn't ever going to enter into the equation. There are a glut of lawyers from lesser schools so the legal environment cannot support them.

You're absolutely right - people act like you need to go to a high-end law school to be successful and it's not true! Any law degree will bump you up in life and if it makes you feel any better - according to the Department of Labor - Bureau of Labor Statistics the median income of all attorneys 9 months out of law school is approximately $102,000. That means half make more, half make less. And I guarantee you not more than 10 percent go to ivy leagues so you do the math.

Yes it's worth it, as you can still become a good lawyer, and make fairly big bucks. If you get lucky, you get a real big case, and become famous.
