LMAO - the fruitcakes we used to get when I was little were really good, and the trick to finding a good one is it's age, and color. The darker it is, the more booze-soaked it is, and aging allows all the flavors to marry and mellow. I think it softens the fruits too. Everybody makes fun of fruitcake, but a good one is a taste sensation, and great when grilled or used for French Toast. My mother would buy a cheaper one for this, it wouldn't have as much rum in it.

A homemade fruitcake can be delicious!!! A cheap store bought one can be a horrible experience. Unless you know for sure the person likes fruitcake I would go with something else. So many people dislike them and they are the butt of so many jokes as the worst gift you can get at Christmas.

I've never had fruitcake, but alot of people use fruit cake as a symbol for a bad present. Like if anyone ever gets it for a present in a TV show or movie they just throw it out. =]

Buk threw one at my forehead earlier. It left a dent. Just say no to store-bought fruitcake.
Liquor or chocolate is better.

I love plain boiled fruit cakes. Made with some pineapple, they are sweet and moist.
