I live in North America, and I would like to know what's up with the moon tonight? (if anyone knows) I know it's a full moon, but there is a little star looking thing by it....is it a planet, or a meteriote? Thanks.

Most likely you're looking at Mars, but the halo around the moon is caused by the light reflecting off of ice crystals in the earths atmosphere.

I think it might be mars. I heard on the radio a while ago that mars is in it's closest position to earth right now. I think they said it would appear close to the moon in the sky. Check out astronomy sites, they might be all over that right now.

It's a planet far away way behind the moon so it looks really close to it.... It's like an optical illusion.
