I am an independent voter. I am not backing for any candidates at this time. In Iowa, Senator Obama , Quote "Truth is, he wasn’t very religious,” said Obama. “He met my mother. My mother was a Christian from Kansas, and they married, and then divorced. I was raised by my mother. So I’ve always been a Christian."

He clearly stated that he was raised by his mother and she was a Christian. If it’s true, why did his mother get married to another Muslim after she divorced Obama's father? He spent his childhood in Indonesia with his mother & step father. I want independent voters (Please no Obama, Hillary, Edwards, or Republican voters) to respond please!

does it really matter if (lets just say) he even was a muslim? why should his affiliations with a muslim father and step father sway you from considering obama?

Smarty, you clearly stated in your response that you are a strong Obama supporter. It is sad that you didn't really read the question. He was asking whether Obama was giving false information or not about his mother being a christian. Obama stated he was raised as a christian by his mother, but his father and step father were muslims. We do have the right to question his credibility since he is running for our president, don't we?

More to the point, why does he misrepresent his name?

He was named for his father, and his full name is "Barack Hussein Obama".

Now, in western naming tradition, three names would be "given name" (aka "Christian" name), then an optional middle name that has no real significance at all, then"Family name".

But, remember - it was his father, a Muslim, who named him. In Muslim naming tradition, a name is "Given name", Family name", "Tribal affiliation".

The late Iraqi dictator, therefore, whose full name was "Saddam Hussein al-Tikriti" was invariably referred to as "Saddam Hussein", or "President Hussein". The correct way to refer to Barack, therefore, is the same - "Barack Hussein", or "Senator Hussein". The afiliative name "Obama" just says what his father tribal background is, it is NOT his "family name" - that is Hussein.

There's also a practical issue if he gets elected. Under Islamic law, the son of a Muslim father is a Muslim automatically. It is a death penalty offence for a Muslim to convert to another religion. Therefore since he is now clearly a Christian, he has, in the eyes of Islamic law, committed a crime for which he could face the death penalty.

Anyone care to imagine how much fun the religious extremists will have with THAT the first time he visits a country such as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan where Islamic law applies?

Aligations of affiliation with a movement clearly opposed to all that is The United States, and openly vowing to destroy the US, clearly calls for a clear and forceful and honest denial accompanied by full disclosure of all the evidence... this Obama Housain has not done. this alone should disqualify him for any federal office in the eyes of any loyal American.... it is now too late for him to back peddle and be allowed to get away with it... not to mention his membership in a "church" that openly preaced against this country.
