Even though that rivalry is the biggest wide spread rivalry. The Dodgers and Giants have been at it for the same amount of time . . . If not longer and we have carried our rivalry on both coasts. I'm not familiar with New York News. . . but I've never heard of any Red Sox or Yankees fan being shot or stabbed in the parking lot. Not that it's something to brag about, but it's the extent we go to sometimes. (Go Dodgers!!!!)

i completely disagree, the most balanced and hardest fought for rivalry in baseball now is the angels-a's just that that matchup doesnt get the same coverage because its always midnight or later east coast time when those games finish
over the course of, if memory serves correct, the last 10 years the angels and a's have a dead split in their head-to-head matchups, they have scored almost the same number of runs too, the only differences are that oakland hits more homers, draws more walks and strikes out more, while the angels steal more bases
while the yanks-sox is a bitter rivalry its still weighted quite heavily to the yankees side, there arent nearly as many close games in that rivalry as the angels-a's

I can't think of a better rivalry in major league baseball than the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. You have the winningest franchise in the history of baseball in the Yankees and the perennial same division underdogs in the Boston Red Sox both of whom have fielded good teams with great players from the early 1900s. So I would tend to agree with you that the Sox-Yankees rivalry is number one.

it may be considered the best, but if you go back in history the giants and dodgers are the longest lasting rivalry. and the giants and yankees rivalry is the oldest dating back to the polo grounds. i know the giants/yankees dont play each other much but they did have a rivalry before there was a red sox team.

I agree that it is one of the best, not the individual best. I happen to enjoy the following rivalries as well:
Regular rivalries:
Cardinals/Cubs
Dodgers/Giants
Indians/Tigers
Interleague rivalries:
Mets/Yankees
A's/Giants
Angels/Dodgers
Cubs/White Sox
Red Sox Yankees is definitely my favorite with Cards/Cubs a close second.

It definately is the best rivalry. With the Curse of the Bambino and all the history between NY and Beantown, how could it not be. You got Bucky Dent, Bill Buckner, Aaron Boone, etc. Oh god, I gotta stop before I choke up lol. But my favorite game was on July 24, 2004 Yanks vs. Sox at Fenway. A-rod and Tek duke it out, then Bill Mueller hits a two-run walk-off shot to win it in the 9th. Doesn't get any better than that. GO SOX !

In my opinion, nothing compares to the Yankees & Red Sox rivalry. However, I think the Cubs & Cardinals one is a close second.

I would say it is the best in baseball right now... because it even extends into the off-season.
One teams moves will often depend on what the other team is doing. The Red Sox have gotten the better of this chess match of late.
