PENSACOLA, Fla. — A couple was charged Friday with trying to sell their 2-month-old baby for $30 in a store parking lot, authorities said.

Robert G. Ellingson, 23, approached two people in the PetSmart parking lot and offered them a beer. When they refused, he offered to sell his child, Escambia County Sheriff's officials said.

"At first they thought it was a joke," sheriff's spokesman Glenn Austin told the Pensacola News Journal. "But then the mother yelled to the group that they were trying to sell the baby. And one of them called us."

Ellingson and Maghen Duvala, 25, the baby's mother, were each charged with four counts of child neglect. They were being held in Escambia County jail — he for $27,000 and she for $15,000. It was not immediately known if they had legal representation. They were expected to make a first appearance Saturday.

people kill their kids. try to flush them down the toilet, throw them in garbage cans. its crazy. i remember the song brenda's got a baby by tupac. it reminds me of this situation. its like people can't handle having kids so they try to give them away, sell them. be adults. love your kids. you wouldn't want your parents to do that to you. throw you away, abort you, sell you for next to nothing, seriously. people need to grow up, and get right.

I heard about this on my local news and I thought how sad this is. To sell your own child for $30 is just plain stupid. Even before they showed the picture of the couple I figured they must be on some type of drugs or something. I just can't understand how someone in their right mind would sell their own child and for $30 at that. Well I guess the only good thing that has come out of this is that the child is safe.

years ago we could do something with people that were nuts
but the bleeding hearts of some Americans just couldn't stand the thought of the poor things(nuts) being in the nut house.
I am sure before it is over we will hear how these two never were right. you know things like the problems they had in their childhood. this is what I can tell you, my daughter has problems she is 23 years old and there is nothing we as her family can do to help her. but just wait till she hurts someone
badly enough. then everyone will say they knew something was wrong with her. why didn't they do something. I am here to say if someone doesn't do something about this whole protecting the nuts it is going to get very bad.
oh yea my thoughts are they should be locked up for ever.

Drugs, drugs, illegal drugs. If this story is indeed true, $30 would barely be enough for their next fix.

I'd hope that someone nice would buy the baby, and save it from these maggots.
