Honestly, all of the top 3 are used by legendary drummers, and all sound pretty similar, especially for a beginner. I would just say to never EVER buy the cheapest cymbal of whatever you're looking for. I mean, just because a 20" China is only $60, doesn't mean it's a deal. Go to a respectable store, and you'll get what you pay for. If it seems too good to be true, it's too good to be true. 2nd hand is a good bet, too.

I have tried both zildjian and paiste and I prefer zildjian. I've tried sabian and don't care for them, but I'd say that is a matter of personal preference. I've never even heard of meinl.

Personally, I love the sound quality of Sabians. And they last for a long time. But it is kind of a personal choice, and it depends on what particular sound the drummer is looking for.
