Yes, it definitely happens. That helix is a little like being in the rotor, except with many more G's. The blood temporarily being pushed down in your body (out of the head) is why you're feeling like you're blacking out.

On some days, you can go on the ride over and over. On those days, you really get that feeling, as well as when you sit more toward the back. So if you don't like it, sit more toward the front and space your rides out. If you like to experiment, then sit more toward the back.

Although I've ridden Goliath many times, I had an opportunity to ride Titan (very similar ride at SF over TX) over 80 times in one day. I was blacking out quite a bit. So let's just hope there's been no permanent damage. ;-)

Great question!

Here is the key.. You arent actually blacking out per se, but you head and eyes are forced down going thru the circles, making you feel like blacking out.

Oh yea, it just pulls some excessive Gs right there.

To minimize that, just lean forward in your seat; sorta lean into the turns. It may not go away completely, but it helps me.

Yes, Robazilla... is right.
You aren't "blacking out". If you did you wouldn't remember it.
The G-Force effects your vision, and that is why your vision gets dark... and "blacks out" per-say.
