Ok, now heres a question, ALOT OF PEOPLE are seriously saying that ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are a HUGE issue, people want presidential candidates to talk about what they are going to do about these illegal immigrants.
Now, my question is for THOSE OF YOU WHO THINK THIS IS A BIG ISSUE.
My question is:
Do you support NAFTA???????
Because if you support the "North american free trade agreement" which suggests that we "take down our borders" for free trade.
Implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) began on Jan. 1, 1994 and will complete in 2008. This agreement removes most barriers to trade and investment among the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
http://www.fas.usda.gov/info/factsheets/NAFTA.asp
http://www.citizen.org/trade/nafta/
A website that is against NAFTA, to be fair I included both.
So my point is, why do you support NAFTA and think that immigration is an issue.
Again this is TO THE PEOPLE who support NAFTA, oppose immigration.

The two things are related because NAFTA effects immigrants.
Trade and Immigrants SHOULD have nothing to do with each other.

Just because I buy groceries at the local market doesn't mean I want the manager moving into my home. Idiot!

NAFTA has nothing to do with it. There is a right way and a wrong way to do things. When too many people do things wrong, people take notice, and they want the wrong-doing stopped.
"People" don't go to Poland to crash airliners into their buildings, little things like that. People don't go to Poland and demand the government accomodate their needs. People don't go to Poland, or anywhere else, because life is better there and then demand the Polish government hire translators because they can't be bothered to learn Polish.
Illegal border jumpers have been here for so long our country feels like home to them now and they wrongly think they have the same rights as legal residents. They understand very little, from what I've seen.
For example, most people agree that every person in the world has a right to a good life, provided he/she earns it - legally. Most people are eager to help.
There is a doctor I know who was so concerned the large population of illegals in our community couldn't afford needed medication. I never understood his concern because there is a free clinic, paid for by taxpayers, and legal, working poor people can't even get on their waiting list because illegal people have all the appts. booked well into next year.
Anyway, he thinks it's a problem for them. So he buys large amounts of medicines and sells them at cost to illegal "residents". So instead of paying $3 for each pill at a pharmacy they pay pennies per pill, he makes no money on it. He's near retirement, he's just trying to do something good, he doesn't make money on their office visits, nothing. But the problem is he refused to hire an interpreter for them. He's already losing a little trying to help them, and he was happy to do it. But, he's not going to spend his life-savings either.
They have a Cultural Community Center (paid for by government grants, tax-payers money) and the liason there is helping all this doctor's patients sue him for not providing them with a translator.
He threw up his hands, which is all you can do with ungrateful, greedy people. He retired and now they have to wait until the free clinic is able to re-start a waiting list.
Now, if the majority of people who came over here waved our flag instead of the Mexican flag, learned English and didn't think they should have anything handed to them (let alone everything), the majority of people who oppose illegals wouldn't have a problem with them. They are ruining it for themselves, which is their choice. Sadly, they are hurting all other illegals who really do just want to fit in and do things right.

There is no such thing as illegal immigrants. Either they are immigrants (following legal processes) or they are undocumented people who are breaking our laws.
NAFTA was (and is) a terrible treaty and should be done away with. In fact you make a good case that it is not Constitutional. The border should be totally sealed and programs established so that for employers to provide for foreign workers to come to the United States, be known, be track-able, and go home after a specific period of time. Children born in the United States to parents which are undocumented should not be granted citizenship. No services should be available to any undocumented alien. Employers who knowingly employee undocumented alien workers should serve time in jail as well as having to pay large fines.

Free trade has nothing to do with someone coming into a country and taking up residence there illegally. I can freely trade with people in Mexico and Canada all I want, but if I try to sneak over into Canada and live there, I'd be breaking their laws. It works both ways.

Who we trade with has little bearing on who we should let into this country, I say we seal up the borders and quit letting the terrorists in! Oh and by the way I was against NAFTA when Bill Clinton signed it into law! I just wanted to let you know that you question really doesn't make sense because the two are unrelated.

I oppose illegal immigration and support NAFTA, because one is bad for our economy and one is good. Our borders are fine. If we want to keep illegals out of the country, all we have to do is stop letting them syphon out of the social security system they didn't pay into and boot them out of the public schools funding with the citizenry's taxes and they will stop coming. If we stop having everything with Spanish subtitles that would help too. If we stop importing goods from Mexico, there will be rampant unemployment there and they will come here in even larger numbers. And if we refuse their goods, certainly they will not import ours.

I don't support either. I don't think Immigration is an issue, just illegal immigration. I have a problem with people who get rewarded for breaking the law. They come to America and demand we change our laws to accommodate them. I am tired of everything being in English and Spanish. I am opposed to illegals getting free benefits when I have to pay for the same benefits.

I have always been against NAFTA. I am against illegal immigrants. I am for securing our borders. Poland was trying to keep people in, not out. We have a different situation in the USA.

Greetings! Illegal immigrants and illegal aliens is a bogey-man for the majority of American people. It is being especially drummed out by the Republican Army...ERRRRR Party.
To me personally, Illegal immigration is a moot point in many different ways.
First, people decry that Illegal immigrants are taking American jobs. The truth is that most illegal immigrants are being paid pennies on the dollar for backbreaking work in the farmlands and in rockbottom entry jobs. I can't remember ever hearing a person who is white and unemployed saying, "I want to work picking fruits and vegetables out in the open field." You certainly don't see high schoolers lining up to take those jobs. You also do not see American citizens trying to line up to do housekeeping jobs or working inside houses of people, particularly wealthy people who pay them with enough money to buy a can or two of dog food to keep them going.
Along the lines of taking jobs, these people are also holding up the economy on their backs. They are the people who clean your toilets in your buildings. These are the people who make sure fresh produce is in your supermarkets. These are the people who make your office grounds look nice.
Another fallacy is that Illegal immigrants are sucking up welfare benifits. Some are, but most are so terrified by someone walking around with a clipboard, they will run for their lives. Most want to hide. They are here for the work and money.
If congress and the President was serious about this so called issue, a bill would be introduced to increase border patrol officers and scope out the vineyards and huge corporations to scour for illegals. If one was found, the corporation or rich mommy and daddy would pay something like ten or twenty thousand dollars PER illegal immigrant.
Corporations and rich people don't like laws like this because they know they could not afford that kind of hit, nor could they stand the heat of the public light, so they order their congresspeople who are in their pockets to not let bills like this pass.
Another facet that could not afford the complete deportation of our illegal immigrants - the US economy.
Thus, I present to you all, a very moot issue.
I know this answer is long, but there are too many people running around like Chicken Little over this bogey-man type of issue, and quite frankly, I am sick of the charade.
Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!

I have opposed NAFTA from the beginning & I believe that all people here illegally, no matter the nationality, should be rounded up & sent home! All borders should be closed. No offense to Canada or Mexico but, they are not our protectors, we must do that for ourselves & not leave it to them to screen who crosses our borders from their countries. The government tells us that we don't have the manpower to police our borders, well, lets bring the troops home from some of the stupid places we have had them stationed for almost 3 score years or more!
