The main reason is that we have conditioned ourselves to th Idea of a Big Brother babysitter so we can pursue our dreams whilst the govt. watches over our kinder and , unfortunately, indoctrinates them to it's own agenda which is nefarious and dastardly in the least.

According to what I heard on TV today, I don't think he wants to abolish public education, just get the federal government out of it. Regardless of whether or not they are in the Manifesto, free Public education and abolition of child labor are good things. Are you in favor of child labor because the manifesto is against it? Do you deny that free public education is one of the things that makes the US a great country and helps maintain a strong and prosperous middle class?

As previously stated, Ron Paul alone has not the authority to ABOLISH the Dept. of Ed., though he can weaken it, if he really wanted to, as he is the chief executive. Congress gives the money, and they are supposed to be the ones who set the rules for each dollar they spend. Still, the president's "interpretation" of the law has, in recent times, changed the actual effect of a given law (see: Bush signing statements) giving the president possible powers to unilaterally and without Congressional consent, completely cripple public education.
The reason I do not support Ron Paul though, is that I believe his idea that public education should be abolished seems abhorrent. I think public education is about equity of education, giving all students the same educational opportunities, and I think efforts to demolish public education are in part to blame for the significantly declining achievements of some kids in comparison to others. As I hold that position, I can not support Dr. Paul's candidacy.

I dont like alot of Ron Pauls Ideas... but I can tell you his idea of abolishing the Dept. of Education freaks alot of libs out because the Dept. of Education is their meal ticket. The teachers union allows sorry *** teachers to continue to practice in the field unabated... and the benefits these teachers get while feeding at the trough of government sponsored "Education" are significant.
Personally, I agree whole heartedly with abolishing the education dept. and re-establishing a New system that puts children and their education FIRST.... and teachers, their corrupt-politically sponsored unions, and their pitiful system of "hearding" children through school and attempting to "Indoctrinate" them politically and idealogically instead of Educating them...LAST.
Ron Paul may be completely out of touch on why we need to fight a war on terror...
BUT...
He is right on the mark when it comes to abolishing an education system that is corrupt, frought with mismanagement, and terribly inadeqaute on educating our youth to thrive in a new global economy.

Because we pay into this AND not everyone can afford a private education. If you only allow the rich to remain educated, you are essentially destroying the American dream and what America's supposed to be about every since the economic boom of the 60's.

I was unaware that it was only Communists who oppose child labor and believe that all children need to be educated. Thank you for enlightening us all (sarcasm).
And without public education, just who would educate the majority of our children? Santa?
