I personally think Alexandra-she had to watch her children die too.

Couched in those terms, there really isn't much to choose between.

Both were unpopular in their adopted countries, and the upbringing of neither one was a good preparation for their future roles.

Both were, at heart, basically good women who, in an ideal world, would have married private gentlemen and lived lives of peaceful obscurity, but were thrust into elevated positions and had to deal with culminations of events set in motion before their births.

Of course, both died violently--Marie Antoinette was separated from her two surviving children and beheaded and Alexandra was killed in the same hail of bullets that ended the lives of her entire family.

Either way, both the queen and the empress are two of history's most tragic figures.

Empress Alexandria because she was more confused over the happenings and was deluded by a mad monk desperately seeking a cure for her hemophiliac son. The death of Marie Antoinette was also tragic but not to the same degree nor do I believe she was as innocent as Empress Alexandria.

If I had to choose which one was more tragic - Empress Alexandra was. Because, she had a very sick kid (she had to ask help from Rasputin - hence the rumor) , her entire family was murdered including her children, I don't think she was as hedonistic as Marie Antoinette

Empress Alexandra because she probably wasn't as bad or wasteful as Marie Antoinette but still came to a bad end. She also had many children one of which was a hemophiliac.

Marie Antoinette. She was a foreigner who came to rule France thorough her marriage to Napoleon Bonaparte. Her regency would prevent her forming true personal relationships, therefore allowing "the people" to hear of her good side. The ridicule she suffered was the malicious sort saved for outsiders and came from the people as well as courtiers. For instance, she never said "let them eat cake".
