...and how does that work in reality because, from experience, they always play with the least expensive, least hyped toys they get? Do you fall for the advertising hype?

you are exactly right. When my son was 5, I had bought all his Santa Clause already when he said "The thing I want the most is paper with all kinds of markers and pens and crayons and color pencils, etc." (He meant like art paper for drawing)

Now, he had paper to draw and color on, he just wanted all new things, so i got a box and threw it all in and that was the least expensive, and his favorite gift. Isn't that funny? He also used to like the little $1 toys in his stocking more than his big expensive stuff!

Now he's 15 and i've bought im black Nike Shox shoes ($110), Loads of clothing including a jacket from American Eagle (appx. $500), more clothes from various stores he likes, a new IPOD ($150) and then odds and ends stuff he asked for

Too bad he doesn't still like the cheap stuff - those were the easy days

I also miss the days when they were really small and liked playing with the bows and boxes more than the toys!

**oh, and I don't fall for the ad hype, but my kids do unfortunately

I don't fall for the advertising hype myself, i really believe that the toy(s) my children will adore the most is the ones that come in large boxes. Not, i hasten to add, because they are large but due to the fact that they include one free LARGE cardboard box that they can play with until their heart's are content, and then cut holes in for windows, pretend it is a ship, car, train, house, and when they are done, recycled in my grey bin!!

I think that she will love her noddy small push along car the most. This was one of the cheapest things that i brought. I think that i did get a bit carried away. Having said that she could surprise me and love one of the more expensive toys instead. Or she will probably prefer the selection pack!
