Without knowing any age of your house, or width of the opening since you state DOORS, a decent contractor would have included short studs above the Lintel, to the ceiling header.
There is a possiblity that the closets??? (are there two?) separated by 16 inches, have double stud frames???
Without removing the drywall, there's no way to tell if Horizontal bracing exists other than the same way one locates verticle studs. Tapping might help, but so might a stud finder.
You should "Assume" studs are 16 inches on center, allowing that the space between is approx 14. 5 inches. You could use a hammer and finishing nail every inch along the wall, after using a tape measure from a door frame, or corner of the room, to find studs as well.
Your Q is a bit confusing in that you're talking about two different areas of the same wall, apparently. I'm also a bit confused about HANGING a TV at a height of over 6 ft. on any wall.

All doorways have a 2x running horizontal across the top. It is called a "header" and helps support the overhead load. It is common, to save time when they built the house, that the same header runs over the top of both of the closets.
To determine if that is the case, knock on the wall with your knuckles and listen for a change in the sound. A hollow wall will have a sort of echo sound and a stud sounds like a thud. Just keep tapping on the wall and listen.

an electric razor works as a stud finder. turn it on and run it across the wall, the sound of it will change when you are on a stud.
good luck.

All you have to do is knock lightly on the wall going across, if it all sounds hollow you do not have a stud in that wall....

If its two separate closets then you have a wall lead in the middle.

A 16" space probably indicates there is no stud.
Studs are always vertical, they don't go across.
