If this is true then I feel sorry about it, as any people who have let racial discriminatory of ambiguous nature to become part of its norm certainty have some way to go to realise that the world has changes since the dawn of the age of fast and easy travel, and information technology, to give way to a global culture. In my observation more and more people round the world are eager to embrace this paradigm shift. Instead of keeping to the narrow confines of their original, or exotic cultures, people al over the world are interacting with each other, sharing their values and other cultural and traditional peculiarities. There however is a danger of the creation a monolithic global culture as homogeneous amalgamation of all the cultures of the world.
It is possible for a people to treat certain people from other races with disregard due to their feelings of racial superiority, but to treat some people with distinctively nicely is a clear sign of admiration, which is not a normal or lasting social trend.
To cope with the situation would be the way that you have already chosen as an appropriate way into, or out of the situation. The first and foremost important thing is that you are not unaware; instead, you are acutely aware of the facts of the situation, which is the domain of your interest, so to speak. You seem to be a keen observer, and clearly an access to actual instances that you can relate to as your first-hand experience. Then you have brought your concern up in a public forum for open discussion, which is also very effective step.
The fact is that you want to adapt to your environment and that is why you have your concerns. Once you have full objective view of the situation then you will be able to accept, and you might also realise that perhaps you need to look even closely. What for instance goes on at most personal intimate levels among people from various races in Japan? Do you see, for instance, many mixed couples around? The infatuation of Japanese with while people could just be fascination about their western culture instead of their race.

I think the comment that the white race has never mistreated the Japanese could be debatable in the face of 2 atomic explosions!
Also, in my opinion, the Japanese feel very superior to the Chinese. A fact that the Chinese resent (I live in China).
My pal in Japan says there is a wave of Nationalism there too.

Japan has never been mistreated by the White race. Blacks tend to be a bit wild and arrogant when not held in check because of their deep seated inferiority complex resulting from millennium of mistreatment. This causes them to mistreat other races. Other races have mistreated the Japanese at some point in their history. Other Asians have felt superior to the Japanese and the Japanese resent this. Also Japanese have mistreated other Asians, causing bad feelings between them.

personally I don't like the topic of race, I don't believe in it. I am Eastern European, of Polish, Russian, and Tatar descent, I live in America and here race is an obsession. I am amazed by the misconceptions people have about race here, I used to be very, very upset when I realized how people felt about it. Race is nothing really, as science will tell you, we are all the same, but hopefully as we see more of eachother we will forget about race alltogether. I don't recognize race anymore, I have Black friends, White friends, Asian friends, Indian friends, I see no difference. Like I said, it seems we are on our way to freeing ourselves from this old fad of race, one day perhaps we will all realize that we are all the same
