because you knew they'd be happier without you, but THEY wouldn't leave YOU?
I guess what I'm getting at is I did that with my ex-husband...and if it's such a 'noble' thing to do...why does it hurt so bad? I actually almost wish HE had dumped ME first!

He only stayed because he was worried about how much it would hurt me if he left. I loved him too much to let him give up the life he was entitled to just to protect MY emotional state. It was hurting me just as badly to see him simply 'going through the motions' every day. He didn't put up a fuss when I filed for divorce...so I must have done the right thing.

The old saying goes if you love someone set them free. If they come back to you it was meant to be if not then it wasn't. Sometimes we have to do whats hard. If it is whats best. Don't beat yourself up over it.

because it's a stupid thing to do. There's nothing noble about it. Maybe his love for you was so great and he saw that you could be a better person.
You thought that by leaving him it would give him an opportunity to find someone better. It hurt him and you. It also could have scarred him so much that he puts up a wall, never really allowing anyone in because he believes the same thing will happen.
You should have tried to work things out if you really loved him and wanted to be good for him.

Ending a relationship is always hard putting it off isn't going to make it any easier. You should be proud of yourself for being honest. Because being in a relationship that you know isn't going to work is the worst thing you could do. Delaying it is only delaying the pain that you know one day will come. Your heart will heal in time. Ask me how I know, because I have been threw it myself.

Sometimes its better to leave someone but you should do it for your own reasons. How can you really know he will be happier without you? Maybe he doesn't express himself? Anyway it does hurt but that person will always be special to you.

How vain of you to decide what was best for your husband! It was not a noble thing to do at all. Why did either of you have to dump one at all?
If there is a chance of reconciliation go for it, and get some relationship counselling so thoughts like that never rear up again.

if he dumped you or you dumped him its still going to hurt the same way, but thats life nothing is easy and like it or not if it does not hurt it means that you never loved him in tha first place so thats natural tu happend, thats how its suppost to be.

Obviously he was with you for a reason, and if staying with you made him unhappy then that is HIS choice and HIS problem.... not sounding selfish here but, people create their own Hell, it was not your place to "save" him.

aw...well yes i did but its because i thought they were cheating on me and i never loved any1 more. i found out ppl were actually lying and he was faithful, but by that time he was gone(died) :(, ur lucky u can still get back with ur ex husband but theres not hope for me:(

i had a fiance that i dumped because he was actually deserving of better. I really didnt love him tho and didnt realize it until after we were engaged. it hurts because you still care and because you are a giving caring person,.
