ok, if the whole island was quaretine and the bridges blown up, how did anna and her son get ON the island. b/c they're from rhode island?

Actually, she states she was on a ship that was on it's way to Vermont and the colony. One of the passengers got infected and started killing the crew. It never says she drove to the city from Maryland. She could have easily stayed on that ship or took another from the harbor.
Also, like jonathan stated Long Island is a peninsula. I've been to NYC and you don't have to cross a bridge to get there.

Oh ya saddest scene by far was when he killed the dog. If you haven't seen the alternate version of the film, rent or buy a copy of the dvd that has it. It is awesome, even better than the original ending.

Manhatten Island is actually a pennisula so you can get there without using a bridge.

I think she was sent there by the people living in Vermont. Don't ask me how I don't know. I felt from the moment she was introduced in the movie that she was lying.

That's exactly what I was thinking. And in the end they got to Vermont.
I think it was a big plot hole, unless they used a boat.

If you think about the whole butterfly thing and how she felt that she was sent by God to rescue him and find the cure, then maybe we are to think that it was a force of God.
