I have experimented with this and this is what I found to be the least expensive. I set the heat at 65 when I am home and awake. About an hour before I go to bed I turn it down to 60. If I am going to be out of the house for more than a couple hours I turn it down to 55.

If the heat is on constantly you are constantly using gas which is constantly driving up your heating costs. Turn it up to something like 69 or 70 F and leave it there during the day. If you want to save money, turn the heat down to 50F at night or when away during the day. A setback thermostat can automate this process for you. Having the heat run constantly even at low temps will use the same amount of gas not less.

set it at 68 and leave it alone, the more you change it the more gas you will use, turning the temp down is a bad idea, [its the gas co,s idea] to get you to use more gas,
a building set at 69 deg will use less. when its turned down it takes more to reheat it, , like driveing your car driveing with the cruse will save you gas, stop and go uses more,
