i am looking for a movie title...guy's wife and kids leave for a weekend, and the guy spends the weekend trying to kill a smart rat, wrecking his house in the process. it is not a comedy....it is a drama. any thoughts?

...sounds a whole heck of a lot like you're talking about the dark-humored and allegorical 1983 horror/thriller, "Of Unknown Origin", starring Peter Weller (...just before he donned the 'RoboCop' armor)...

I think there might be a movie like that in the masters of horror series. maybe. I haven't seen it but it sounds familiar.
