can a girl that is 13 years old who has the name samantha, can she be called samantha? or does she hav to be called Sam or Sammy?

She can be called anything she likes as long as it's what she wants and it's not some crazy madeup word. Either way, she'll probably change it soon anyway, so call her whatever. If she is a tomboy, she may prefer Sam, but she doesn't have to be called that, unless it really bothers her when people don't. By the way, if I ever use the name Samantha, which I may, I plan to call her Sam until she tells me to quit. But Samantha as a whole is very pretty too, that's why I like it. So if she wants a girly name she can have Samantha, or if she's a tomboy/"cool" freak like I was she can have Sam. It's all a matter of what she wants at 13.

I know this woman named Samantha. Most people call her Sam. Family members call her Sami. She prefers Samantha. But she will answer to any of the above names.

That is exactly why, although I love the name Samantha, I wouldn't name either of my daughters that. Everyone wants to shorten it to Sam or Sammy. Actually, yes, a girl can be called Samantha, but she has to be willing to correct everyone who shortens it. That can get really old.

Theres no reason that you can't be called Samantha, its rightfully your name and its a beautiful one at that. Sam and Sammy are nice alternatives if you want something more kiddy, but Samantha is a fabulous and classic name.
I'm partial to it, one of my best friends since childhood has always been called Samantha and I love it!
